GREAT WALL: 8 "Great Wall" Misconceptions and The Mongol Invasion (Documentary)

-It's Great and it's a wall!

The Great Wall of China is the only human-built structure that can be seen from space! Yes, that's one of the misconceptions. Let's see what other myths there are about the Great Wall of China.

The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China in part to protect the Chinese Empire or its prototypical states against intrusions by various nomadic groups or military incursions by various warlike peoples or forces. Several walls were being built as early as the 7th century BC; these, later joined together and made bigger, stronger, and unified are now collectively referred to as the Great Wall. Especially famous is the wall built between 220--206 BC by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang. Little of that wall remains. Since then, the Great Wall has on and off been rebuilt, maintained, and enhanced; the majority of the existing wall was reconstructed during the Ming Dynasty.
Other purposes of the Great Wall have included border controls, allowing the imposition of duties on goods transported along the Silk Road, regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and emigration. Furthermore, the defensive characteristics of the Great Wall were enhanced by the construction of watch towers, troop barracks, garrison stations, signaling capabilities through the means of smoke or fire, and the fact that the path of the Great Wall also served as a transportation corridor.
The Great Wall stretches from Shanhaiguan in the east, to Lop Lake in the west, along an arc that roughly delineates the southern edge of Inner Mongolia. A comprehensive archaeological survey, using advanced technologies, has concluded that the Ming walls measure 8,850 km (5,500 mi).[5] This is made up of 6,259 km (3,889 mi) sections of actual wall, 359 km (223 mi) of trenches and 2,232 km (1,387 mi) of natural defensive barriers such as hills and rivers. Another archaeological survey found that the entire wall with all of its branches measure out to be 21,196 km (13,171 mi).

Smuggling: Chinese Authorities Stop Bear Paw Smuggling Ring, Display for all to see.

-I love the blueberry kind.

Chinese customs confiscate 213 bear paws hidden in the wheels of a van on the Russian border, arresting two men for smuggling. "During our inspection, we found the vehicle's driver paid great attention to our tapping on the vehicle and our movements as we examined it, and was nervous," customs worker Yang Xu told reporters.

Two men were arrested for illegal smuggling after the discovery of the paws, which are worth an estimated 2.8m yuan (460,000 US dollars).

Hunting bears and trading their body parts is illegal in China, but an underground industry has sprung up to cater for demand for bear products, including paws and bile. Report by Sophie Foster.

Adoption Documentary: "Somewhere Between" Adopted Chinese Girls Travel Back to China

-Very nice documentary.

TRAILER: Somewhere Between - A Feature Documentary from Linda Knowlton on Vimeo.
My daughter's name is Ruby. She is five. When my husband and I adopted her from China we had no idea what lay ahead. In an instant, we became a family. I began to think about Ruby's future and started to wonder how her coming of age would differ from mine. SOMEWHERE BETWEEN tells intimate stories of what it is like to come-of-age as a trans-racial adoptee in today's America, as examined through the POV of some of the 79,562 adopted girls from China. Through these girls we will explore identity, racism, and gender. Through the voices of these young women, we will see not just their lives, but our own, reflected back to us - whether we are adoptive families or not. SOMEWHERE BETWEEN will start a dialogue about what we see, who we are, and the changing face of the American family. This film is about the 79,562 girls growing up in America. Right now. http://somewherebetweenmovie.com

EPISODE SYNOPSIS:
"Somewhere Between," Filmmaker Linda Goldstein Knowlton joins the set to present her doc that highlights the experience of Chinese girls that have been adopted by American parents.

What is Somewhere Between about?

There are over 80,000 children adopted from China now growing up in the U.S. – over 90% of them are girls. Somewhere Between tells the intimate stories of four of these teenaged girls. They have different kinds of families but are united by one thing: all four were adopted from China, because they had birth parents who could not keep them, due to personal circumstances colliding with China's 'One Child Policy'. These wonderful young women allow us to grasp what it is like to come-of-age in today's America as trans-racial adoptees. At the same time, we see them as typical American teenagers doing what teenagers everywhere do…struggling to answer the question, ‘Who Am I?’

Through these young women, we ourselves pause to consider who we are—both as individuals and as a nation of immigrants. And with great honesty and courage, these four girls open their hearts to experience love, compassion, and self-acceptance....and show us the way, too.

4 Videos: Chinese Peasant Arrested for Copying Hollywood Movie and Making own Fake Alien

-Fascinating story.

More news in @newsdailyplanet Alien caught on tape - chinese farmer video - woman alien !
http://youtu.be/zUx7zyKzrAs

Do you believe that aliens exist? The truth is out there. No, I mean seriously. The truth is really out there.

I'm Chris Chappell.

It was March in China's eastern Shandong province a man, whose profession is debated and goes by the surname of Li, was walking along the Yellow River when he spotted a UFO. He then had a run in with five aliens who he said he confronted and--well the details are unclear--- but he says one of them got caught in his high-electric fence he used to catch rabbits and died. Li then wrapped the alien's body up, took it home to put in his freezer and the next day reported the incident to the police.

Now believe it or not, the local police did not believe Li's alien story and ignored him. That is until he started blogging about it on the internet and posting photos of his alien corpse.

So there we go, indisputable proof that we are not alone in the universe. I told you. I told all of you! Hahaha!

Cough. Oh, what's that? Ah, apparently the police interrogated Li and confirmed what we all suspected--that yes, Li had indeed been lying. I mean, just look at the pictures. Who would ever be taken in by those?! I mean, I guess you'd have to be a real idiot to believe in extra terrestrials. And that they might want to be your friend.
Apparently the creature was assembled with wire ropes, bone glue, and something called antholeucin that is used to whiten food.
If I were him I would at least have used some silly putty to get that oh-so-alien slimy-skin texture.
But despite the poor construction job there were more noble ambitions for all of this. Li-- an avid alien enthusiast-- said "I just wanted people to believe that aliens exist!" Yes, that's right, he wanted to prove that aliens were real so he created an alien.... that well, wasn't really an alien.... Of course Li said later that he regretted his decision and well, lets just say realized he was undermining his own agenda.
Li had taken inspiration from the 2011 science fiction comedy film "Paul " and created his alien based on the movie's main character. While that move was a comedy, I don't think Li ever thought of this as a joke.
Mr. Li was inspired by this movie!
Anyways Li is in police custody and is being held in detention for five days for "fabricating lies and disrupting normal social order." Typical humans.

So what do you think about all this? Do you believe aliens are real and what would you tell Li if you could meet him in person?

A Chinese farmer who claimed to have an alien stored in his freezer has been questioned by police after admitting it was a hoax. The man, known only as Li, posted on a blog that he confronted five aliens and one of them was killed by an electric fence he had set up to catch wild rabbits.

After reporting the 'alien' to police, Li was later interrogated and eventually admitted it was a hoax, saying: "It is still disputed whether or not UFOs and aliens exist but enthusiasts believe they do.

"We want to expand our group and make more people believe in aliens." Report by Rob Gillett.
